We started our day's adventure by taking a scenic boat ride through Malta's Blue Grotto. It is a system of sea caves on the southern coast and it's name has Blue in it for a reason. In the mornings the water mirroring shows many iridescent shades of blue that make you hardly believe it's real.
As Sara mentioned in the last blog post, the next thing we did was tour the two prehistoric temples Hagar Qim and Mnajdra today. They are some of the oldest religious sites on Earth dating back to the Ġgantija phase, which is from 3600 to 3200 BC. The Hagar Qim and Mnajdra can be seen below.
After visiting the prehistoric temples we stopped by the local fishing village of Marsaxlokk for lunch. The hostess of the restaurant we stopped at led us through the kitchen to view the choices of fish for the day. We decided to try them all and they were extremely good.
Next we visited the Għar Dalam Cave and Museum. It has the earliest evidence of human settlement in Malta and also features the remains of many extinct animals. Some of these interesting animals include the pygmy hippopotamus, dwarf elephant and the giant dor mouse.
It was a great day for cultural exploring and a nice break from working on our projects. Dr. Zoe" Wood will be arriving tonight and early tomorrow morning we will depart for Sicily.
